The United States-Mexico Foundation for Science (Fumec)
The governments and scientific communities in Mexico and the United States decided to found the United States-Mexico Foundation for Science (FUMEC) with the help of the Presidential Scientific Advisory Council and the National Science and Technology Council in Mexico and the United States House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.
Together with FUMEC, the Academy has given young researchers the opportunity to meet with their colleagues at various universities in the United States and further their research projects while consolidating relationships with their work groups. A program has also been established to invite American researchers to Mexico. Additional programs established in conjunction with FUMEC are outlined below.
1. AMC –FUMEC Internships for Doctoral Students
In 1995, FUMEC offered a onetime grant to doctoral students in the fields of Physics and Chemistry to participate as visiting researchers at American universities and research centers for a period of six to ten months.
2. AMC-FUMEC Summer Internships in the USA for Young Researchers
The program was founded in 1995 with the help of the USA-Mexico Foundation for Science. The program provides grants for young researchers in the areas of Astronomy, Biology, Computing, Physics, Engineering, Education, Mathematics, Medicine and Chemistry so that they may undertake a summer research project in laboratories in the USA.
3. Distinguished Professors Visiting Program
Together with the USA-Mexico Foundation for Science, the AMC created this program in 1996 to invite world-renowned professors living in the US to visit Mexico and teach seminars, mini-courses and workshops.
